SQE Study Notes is a revision study aid so the candidate can focus their time on study, comprehension and recall. SQE Study Notes gets straight to the substantive and procedural law you need to know to pass SQE1 which is massive syllabus. It is meant to help the candidate study and recall the ‘Functioning Legal Knowledge’ syllabus which the SQE assesses over two assessment days.
Revision notes have always been part of the law student’s arsenal in passing law exams. Currently, there are many SQE revision notes in circulation, however, on closer examination many are rehashed GDL/LLB/LPC notes or student notes tailored to their SQE provider’s course which often include irrelevant material.
SQE Study Notes and SQE Flashcards are not linked to any SQE provider course. I have written SQE Study Notes and SQE Flashcards directly based on the SQE syllabus as published by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Kaplan (the assessor).
For the last 2 years, I have 'become the student' in an effort to create a set of revision notes that a student could practically use to pass the SQE. An immense amount of hard work and careful thought has gone into structuring and summarising the law (FLK1 and FLK2) to ensure the content maximises learning, focus and exam success.
Sunit Tejura is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Solicitor with over 25 years’ experience in legal practice and education. He understand the pedagogy of the SQE and is an active member of the SQE community (professionally and on social media). He has used this professional knowledge and experience to ensure SQE Study Notes and SQE Flashcards are a valuable learning resource that will contribute to your goal of passing the SQE.
Revision notes are concisely written study notes which assume you have some understanding of the law perhaps as a law graduate or a foreign qualified lawyer. SQE Study Notes has skilfully brought together all the substantive and procedural law into an easy to read and use format to aid revision and recall since the SQE is a closed book assessment that examines ‘Functioning Legal Knowledge’ of English and Welsh law over two intense assessment days (FLK1 and FLK2).
SQE Study Notes will help fast-track and consolidate your study of the SQE syllabus by setting out the key principles of 'SQE' law with minimal reference to specific case names, statutory or regulatory authorities (as set out in the Solicitor Regulation Authority guidelines on the SQE). The SQE examines a massive amount of law over two days. SQE Study Notes are revision notes to help students recall the law they need to pass.
SQE Study Notes covers the entire SQE syllabus (FLK1 and FLK2) published by Kaplan on behalf of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. However, to aid effective learning, SQE Study Notes is organised into 2 books as follows:
Book 1 - Substantive Law: Contract, Tort, Legal Systems/Public/EU, Trusts, Land and Criminal Law.
Book 2 - Procedural Law: Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Property Practice, Wills and the Administration of Estates, Criminal Practice, Legal Services, Tax, Ethics and Professional Conduct and Solicitors Accounts.
SQE Flashcards - Covers the key FLK1 and FLK2 law subjects of Contract, Tort, Legal Systems/Public/EU, Trusts, Land, Criminal Law, Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Property Practice, Wills and the Administration of Estates, Criminal Practice, Legal Services, Taxation, Legal Ethics & Professional Conduct and Solicitors' Accounts. For maximum learning impact, SQE Flashcards should be used alongside SQE Study Notes (Books 1 and 2).

Passing SQE1 is only part of the journey. You must go on to pass SQE2.
SQE Study Notes (Book 1 and Book 2) succinctly covers the FLK 1 and FLK2 practice areas and underlying law that you need to know to pass SQE2. These are:
Practice Areas ( Book 1: Procedural Law):
Criminal Litigation (including advising clients at the police station)
Dispute Resolution
Property Practice
Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice
Business organisations, rules and procedures (including money laundering and financial services).
Black Letter Law (Book 2: Substantive Law):
Criminal Litigation: Criminal liability
Dispute Resolution: Contract law and Tort
Property Practice: Land law
Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice: Trusts
Business organisations, rules and procedures: Contract law.
Professional conduct and ethics will be core parts of SQE2. Questions on ethics will be pervasive throughout SQE2.
Questions involving taxation may arise in Property Practice; Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice; and Business organisations, rules and procedures.
For the avoidance of doubt the legal system of England and Wales, Constitutional and Administrative law and EU law, legal services (apart from money laundering and financial services) and Solicitors Accounts are not examined in SQE2. Money laundering and financial services are examinable in the context of business organisations, rules and procedures.
